This is a delicious light sweet dough recipe with a juicy apple filling, perfect for a morning or afternoon tea/coffee break.
Bread Dough
1 sachet dried yeast
80g tepid water
50g sugar
40g butter melted
1 egg
300g strong bread flour
½ teaspoon salt
Apple Filling
200g apple pie filling
50g sugar
½ teaspoon cinnamon
Glaze
75g icing sugar
1 tablespoon milk
Few drops vanilla essence
Method
Place yeast, water and sugar in a large bowl and leave in a warm place for 15 mins.
Add butter, egg, flour and salt and mix well into a ball.
Turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 5 mins.
Place dough back into the bowl and leave in a warm place until risen to double in size.
Prepare apple filling by combining all ingredients.
Roll dough out into a 30 x 20cm rectangle and place unto lightly greased baking tray.
Place filling down the centre of the longer length. With a knife cut the dough on either side of the filling into slanting 2.5cm strips.
Fold strips alternatively to give a plaited effect.
Cover and allow to rise for approx. 45mins.
Bake at 190C for 15-20mins or until golden brown.
Combine glaze ingredients and drizzle over plait.
