This is a delicious light sweet dough recipe with a juicy apple filling, perfect for a morning or afternoon tea/coffee break.

Bread Dough

1 sachet dried yeast

80g tepid water

50g sugar

40g butter melted

1 egg

300g strong bread flour

½ teaspoon salt

Apple Filling

200g apple pie filling

50g sugar

½ teaspoon cinnamon

75g icing sugar

1 tablespoon milk

Few drops vanilla essence

Place yeast, water and sugar in a large bowl and leave in a warm place for 15 mins.

Add butter, egg, flour and salt and mix well into a ball.

Turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 5 mins.

Place dough back into the bowl and leave in a warm place until risen to double in size.

Prepare apple filling by combining all ingredients.

Roll dough out into a 30 x 20cm rectangle and place unto lightly greased baking tray.

Place filling down the centre of the longer length.  With a knife cut the dough on either side of the filling into slanting 2.5cm strips.

Fold strips alternatively to give a plaited effect.

Cover and allow to rise for approx. 45mins.

Bake at 190C for 15-20mins or until golden brown.

Combine glaze ingredients and drizzle over plait.
